Scholes and Paris
Scholes is a moorland community between the valley of New Mill Dike and the Holme Valley which was substantially enlarged with new commuter housing in the latter part of the 20th century.
Before that time the area had been twin hamlets of Scholes and Paris, the latter having now been somewhat swallowed up into the wider village of Scholes, although the Paris name is still maintained in the name of a road.
Set amid surrounding agriculture, Scholes was a centre of the woollen industry, based at its Lee Mills, while in Paris there was sandstone quarrying.
